An army jawan was killed in an encounter with suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants in Assam's Sonitpur district on Wednesday, officials said.
Troops on patrol were fired upon by the militants in Chariduar area of the district bordering Arunachal Pradesh and a jawan was killed in the encounter which followed, they said.
The slain jawan has been identified as Raju Kumar of 7 Bihar Regiment.
One of the militants was caught while the others fled, officials said.
