A mother and her youngest son were killed when their house caved under the pressure of a landslide in Kahilipara hill area of Guwahati city late on Tuesday night after a heavy downpour.
According to the police, Anita Saikia, 38, and her youngest son Krishna Saikia, 3, were killed when their house was damaged due to the landslide that occurred at around 10.30 pm.
Three other members of the family were injured in the incident.
The injured included Anita's husband Anil Saikia, elder son Ankur and daughter Dharitri.
Guwahati is dotted with many landslide prone hills where dwellings have cropped up over the years in spite of warnings by the government against such encroachments.
