Army jawan killed in encounter in Kashmir

One army trooper was killed during a search operation a forest area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday morning, a senior police officer to Rediff.com.

Troops of the Rashtriya Rifles surrounded the forest area near Handwara on receiving a tip off about the presence of a group of militants there. “As the security forces were conducting a search, the militants opened fir. One army jawan was killed on the spot,” the officer said.

The search for militants is still on. More reinforcements have been rushed to the spot.
