Another shocking honour killing: Couple burnt alive in Bihar

In a suspected case of honour killing, a widowed woman who had recently remarried against her family's wishes was burnt alive along with her husband in Raksha Basatpur village in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.

Raj Kumari alias Radha Devi, who was in her early 30s, and her husband were allegedly killed by her brothers, said the police.

According to the police, her brothers had repeatedly threatened to kill her after she remarried a local tea vendor last week.

"The couple were beaten brutally and later set on fire to suppress the incident," police said.

Muzaffarpur's Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said that the police came to know about the shocking incident only after a villager informed the local police station on the condition of anonymity.

Primarily investigations suggest that the couple's bodies were burnt to destroy the evidence.

"The police was not informed by her family," Rajesh Kumar said.

The police suspect that the decision to "punish" the couple was taken by the village panchayat.

"Most of the men in the village are absconding after the incident and the women and elderly  are reluctant to say anything," a police official said.
