Maharashtra home ministry has served notices to eight policemen including former police commissioner D N Jadhav over the missing file of the bulletproof jackets purchased by the Mumbai Police.

All the police officials have been asked to reply by January 4.

The file that has been missing contains all records of the bulletproof jackets purchased by the Mumbai Police in 2007.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau had found all the purchased bulletproof jackets to be sub-standard.

Social activist Santosh Daundkar had filed a public interest litigation alleging irregularities in the purchase of substandard bulletproof vests for the police.

It has been reported that Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare was wearing a sub-standard bulletproof jacket on the night of the 26/11 terrorist attacks, when he was killed in the encounter with the terrorists.
