Buckling under public pressure, 11 ministers from Telangana region are mulling the idea of submitting resignations after Information Technology Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has sent in his resignation after the people stormed his residence, seeking resignation.
"Other ministers were also ready to resign," he said, stressing, "The Centre's statement on Telangana has seared our hearts."
The Telangana ministers, who were all at sea on how to defend yesterday's statement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, were busy in meetings and consultations throughout the day.
According to sources, the ministers were planning to send resignations to the chief minister before leaving for New Delhi to seek clarification from the home minister.
Earlier in the day, the minister for information and leader of the House in the state Assembly J Geeta Reddy said there were many ambiguities in the statement, though it was not against Telangana.
"Chidambaram said in the statement that wideranging consultations will be held with all the political parties. He should give us a timeframe for the same. Secondly he said that all the parties will be involved in the process. He should explain whether the process means the process of formation of Telangana or the process of consultations."
The state ministers from Telangana have come under pressure from the pro-Telangana agitators to quit because 21 ministers from Andhra and Rayala Seema region had also quit after Chidambaram made the first statement on December 9 announcing the start of the process of the formation of Telangana state.
