The Congress suffered a setback in the Andhra Pradesh by-polls where its rebel YSR Congress party chief president YS Jaganmohan Reddy established his hold over the Kadapa district. While 38-year-old Jagan retained the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat by a margin of more than 1 lakh votes, his mother Vijaya Lakshmi, widow of former chief minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy, won the Pulivendula assembly seat by a margin of more than 30,000 votes.
Vijaya Lakshmi defeated her brother-in-law Y S Vivekanand Reddy while Jagan defeated D L Ravindra Reddy of the Congress.
