The tug-of-war between Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss and All India Institute of Medical Sciences Director P Venugopal is set to play out yet again when the institute's governing body meets on Friday to seek a compliance report from the cardiac surgeon on its earlier decisions.

"The members will be seeking a compliance report from the director on all the decisions taken by the GB earlier," a health ministry official told PTI. The GB had earlier met on January 24 and May 7.

"The May 7 agenda will be taken up on June 15 again. The director was given various directions and was asked to implement them in these meetings," the official said.

One of the hot discussion at the meeting will be the alleged irregular appointment and subsequent promotion of 164 faculty members.

Chaired by Ramadoss, the 11-member body will meet at Nirman Bhavan and also take up other administrative issues. The director will also be asked whether show cause notice has been issued to the AIIMS Faculty Association, a decision taken in the last meeting, for their criticism of a government panel that confirmed allegations of caste discrimination at the institute.

Discussion on the S K Thorat committee report, distributed among the members in the last meeting, will also be taken up.

The three-member committee, in its report submitted to the minister, had accused AIIMS administration for playing a pivotal role in the anti-quota agitation last year.

A battle is on between Ramadoss, who is the president of the premier institute, and Venugopal since last year when the apex body of the institute had recommended the dismissal of the director, which was stayed by the court.
