Ahmedabad blasts: 29 accused remanded

Thirteen accused in the July 26 serial blasts were sent to judicial custody, while 16 others were sent to police custody by a local court in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Twenty-nine accused in the serial blasts cases were produced before metropolitan magistrate G M Patel after their police remand ended on Friday.

The 29 accused produced before court included blast mastermind Mufti Abu Basher, SIMI leader Safdar Nagori and two others accused of planting bombs at various places in Surat after the terror attacks in Ahmedabad.

Thirteen accused, including three brought from Jaipur in Rajasthan, were sent to judicial custody by the court after the city crime branch investigating the blasts cases did not seek further remand for them.

Those sent to judicial custody include Salim Sipahi, Umar Kabira, Atik-ur-Rehman, Mehndi Hassan and Imran Ahmed alias Raja from Rajasthan, Naved Kadri, Javed Sheikh, Abbas Sameja, Imran Sheikh, Iqbal Sheikh, Gyasuddin Sheikh, Arif Kagzi and Zahid Patel.

Sixteen other accused were sent to police coustody for different periods for cases registered under various police stations in the city and Surat.

Fifteen of them, including blast mastermind Abu Basher, were sent to police custody till November 11.

Abdul Razik Mansuri, who was arrested recently from Nagda in Madhya Pradesh, was booked under a case registered in the Naroda police station and remanded till November 17.

Blast mastermind Abu Basher, Sajid Mansuri and Tanveer Patel have been booked for a case of bomb planting registered in Surat city.

Seven, including SIMI leader Safdar Nagori, have been booked under a case registered at Maninagar police station, while four have been booked for bomb blast in Naroda area of the city.

So far, 17 people have been arrested by the crime branch for their involvement in the serial blasts. Two persons have been arrested for planting bombs in Surat city soon after the terror attacks in Ahmedabad.

The crime branch have brought 22 persons from various states including, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Karnataka, for questioning in connection with the July 26 blasts, which claimed 57 lives and injured several others.
 
According to the crime branch, those brought from other states were directly or indirectly connected with the terror attacks in Ahmedabad.
