Afzal Guru to be buried inside Tihar Jail

The body of Afzal Guru will be buried inside the premises of Tihar Jail, according to sources in the Delhi police.

There is a provision in the jail manual to permit family members of a death row convict to get possession of his body and perform the funeral secretively.

But given the sensitive nature of Guru’s case, the permission will not be granted.

According to sources, Guru’s family members will be asked if they wanted to participate in the burial ceremony, which will be performed in Tihar Jail. The authorities will carry out the burial with full religious rites within the jail premises.

A letter informing Guru’s family members about his hanging will be issued in a while, following which the procedure to bury him will be set in motion. The burial will take place in a few hours, said sources.
