The Bharatiya Janata Party has condemned the brutal killing of K Suryanarayana, the Indian engineer who was abducted and killed by the Taliban on Sunday morning.

"We condemn the brutal killing of Shri K Suryanarayanan, an Indian engineer working in Afganistan and our sympathies are with members of the breaved family," Prakash Javadekar, party spokesman, said.

He blamed the government of India for not taking timely action in the matter and recollected the killing of Maniappan Kutty by the Taliban in similar circumstances.

"The government should adopt pro-active role and talk to the governments of Iraq and Afganistan, where Indians are involved in such reconstruction activities and ensure the safety of our citizens. The government should also talk to Pakistan and America. The foreign secretary in his statement did not say anything about the threat held out by the Talibans that all Indians must leave Afganistan. We hope the government would take action on this count as well," he said.
