Aero India 2005, the five-day international aerospace and defence exposition, will start on Wednesday.

The show will be held at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bangalore. Over 80 fighters and other aircraft are on display.

About 352 aerospace and aviation firms, including 126 from India, are participating in the show.

Some 31 countries including China, Israel, the United States of America and the United Kingdom are sending their teams for the exposition.

"There are only few air shows where other countries are invited to participate," Defence Secretary (production) Shekar Dutt said.

India plans to display three homegrown aircraft -- Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas), Intermediate Jet Trainer and Advanced Light Helicopter.

The Surya Kiran aircraft, Sukhoi 30 Mki, Jaguar Trainer, Sea Harrier and Mirage 2000 fighters, among others, would also be on display.

The US will display two F-15 Strike Eagle Fighter Jets, Hercules Charlie 130 carrier aircraft, P3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft and Bell helicopters.

"US firms are looking at collaborations with Indian companies and they are already outsourcing major systems," Dutt said.

Air Chief Marshall S P Tyagi said India has already informed the US, Sweden, Russia and France about its intention to buy 126 supersonic fighters to replace the aging MiGS of the Indian Air Force.
