The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday ruled out the possibility of party president Lal Kishenchand Advani tendering his resignation.
This comes after two senior party leaders, former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana and member of Parliament Pyarelal Khandelwal, wrote to Advani urging him to step down.
Soon after the letters were sent, Advani met former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and party leaders Jaswant Singh and M Venkaiah Naidu.
After the meeting, which lasted about two hours, all the three drove away without addressing the waiting media persons.
A close aide of Advani, however, told rediff.com that while the letters were received, there was no question of Advani stepping down. "Such letters keep coming. How does it matter to the party," he said.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh spokesman Ram Madhav, speaking to rediff.com from Chennai, said it was the BJP's internal issue. "We have not demanded Advani's resignation," he said.
