To avoid confusion in admissions to professional courses and streamline the same for medical colleges, the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed all states and Union territories to declare Class XII examination results by June 10 and provide the mark sheets to students by June 15 every year.
A three-judge Bench, headed by Y K Sabharwal, directed all states to conduct the first round of counselling for MBBS courses by July 25 and intimate Directorate General of Health Services about the correct position of vacancies by July 26.
The DGHS conducts 15 per cent all India quota examination for admission government medical colleges.
The court said all medical colleges will have to strictly adhere to the time schedule for admissions; there will be no midstream admission, no excess admissions and no carrying forward of unfilled seats to next year.
The apex court asked DGHS to file an affidavit by January 31 commenting on the suitability of counselling students through video conferencing.
It also asked the DGHS to examine the feasibility of increasing the number of all India quota seats in government medical colleges from 15 to 20 per cent.
On the medical colleges, the court said: "If any of them exceeds the admissions to management quota seats in one year, than the management quota for the next year will be reduced correspondingly."
