Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan has been removed from the Communist Partyof India-Marxist politbureau but will continue in the Central committee and will hold the post of the Chief Minister till the coming assembly elections. This was revealed by a press release of the CPI-M central committee after the marathon deliberations at the AKG Bhavan in New Delhi.

The CPI-M central committee in its release said that Achuthanandan is removed from the party poltibureu on grounds of indiscipline committed by the octogenarian leader. The press release also highlighted the various contributions made by comrade Achuthanandan to the party and said that he will continue to be the chief minister .

The central committee release also mentioned that there was no corruption in the SNC Lavelin case and that this was a politically motivated charge. The party will fight the SNC Lavelin case both politically and legally, the release further said.  The release also stated that the party does not believe in party secretary Pinarayi Vijayan to have committed any corruption in the SNC Lavalin issue.

The party central committee called upon the state leadership to work unitedly and spiritedly to fight for the people of the state and to work among the people. The party leadership should also study in detail the reasons for the electoral defeat.

The party central committee has serious discussions with almost all the leaders from Kerala opining on the anti party activities of the Chief Minister and called upon stringent action against Achuthanandan. At a point of time there were even opinion that Achuthanandan was even leaking the party details to the media which had created a wrong impression on the party among the ordinary people of the state.

Sources in the CPI-M told rediff.com that Achuthanandan would continue as the Chief Minister in a submissive role as the central committee member only. However a majority of the members of the CPI-M politbureau were supporting Achuthanandan and wanted to take action against Pinarayi Vijayan also on the corruption charges.

Sources told rediff.com that the CPI-M leaders M K Pandhe, Sitaram Yechury, Mohammed Amin, Brinda Karat ,Manik Sarkar were supporting Achuthanandan in the party politbureau and wanted stringent action against Vijayan for having being charge sheeted in the multi crore SNC Lavalin case.

The strong stand taken by the party general secretary Prakash Karat that Achuthanandan had deviated from the party line and that he should be punished was finally accepted by the politbureau.

Sources are not ruling out the possibility of a similar action coming up against Vijayan when the multi crore corruption case in the SNC Lavelin case comes for trial before the CBI court in September .There are already appeals from several quarters that Vijayan has caused more harm to the party in the state than Achuthanandan who is considered as the only mass leader in the CPI-M of Kerala.
