AAP files plaint against Gadkari for threat to I-T

Aam Aadmi Party has filed a complaint against former Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari for his remarks on income t officials, police said on Wednesday.

A day after Rajnath Singh replaced him as BJP chief, "free man" Nitin Gadkari on his arrival at Nagpur airport on January 24 had said he was not bound by the dignity of the post any longer and virtually threatened income-tax officials, claiming nobody would save them when the BJP came to power at Centre.

The complaint was filed on Tuesday night with Sonegaon airport police station by AAP functionary Girish Nandgaonkar.

Gadkari's remarks that even Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Finance Minister P Chidambaram would not be able to save income tax officials after the BJP came to power had evoked a sharp reaction from the apex body of tax officials.

Following the furore, Gadkari retracted saying his public sentiment had been "distorted and misinterpreted".

Confirming receipt of the complaint, Police Inspector T K Wahile told PTI on Wednesday morning that the police are looking into the complaint.

"It is a non-cognisance matter and so far no case has been registered against Gadkari," he said.

Income tax sleuths had raided 11 locations across Mumbai, just a day before BJP's presidential poll, to verify the existence of the alleged shell companies that are linked to Gadkari's Purti Group.
