Three terrorists were killed in a day-long gunfight in North Kashmir's Bandipore district on Thursday.

The gunfight in Hajin town, 40 km from Srinagar, broke out on Thursday morning after troops of counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group jointly launched a search operation on specific information about presence of a group of terrorists there.

"As the security forces were busy in searches, terrorists, hiding in a house, opened fire, triggering an encounter. So far, three terrorists have been killed,' the officer toldrediff.com.

He said three AK-47 rifles and one Underbarrel Grenade Launcher were recovered from the slain terrorists.

"The operation is still on," the officer added.

Senior army and police officers visited the area.

Groups of youth indulged in heavy stone pelting at the security forces. They were, however, chased away by the police.
