Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that just and equitable resolution of issues like Kashmir and Palestine will help bring durable peace and harmony in the "turbulent" world and curb terrorism.
Indo-Pak dialogue to be reviewed
"Just and equitable resolution to these lingering disputes will help bring durable peace and harmony to our turbulent world as their settlement will help efforts to curb extremism and terrorism afflicting many parts of the world," he told a delegation of Asian Parliamentarians, referring to issues like Kashmir and the Middle East.
Musharraf said Pakistan was moving forward on the path of sustainable democracy, which had great significance for development of the country and the well-being of its people.
"I believe democracy is imperative for development and progress of the country, and sustained socio-economic well-being of the people," he was quoted as saying by an official press release in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The elected assemblies will complete their term and general elections in Paksitan would take place in 2007, he said.
Referring to the local government system, Musharraf said it had empowered people politically, financially and administratively at the grass-root level and now they can themselves sort out any difficulties in the way of progress and development.
The Pakistan President also called for integrating regional economies. "Asian countries need to supplement each others' economies to achieve the long-sought goal of across the board development and prosperity of our people."
