UK issues travel advisory for 26/11 anniversary

The recent travel advisory issued by the British government has warned its nationals from visiting Goa and four metropolis in India in wake of possible terror attacks in these cities. The advisory on the UK government Foreign Commonwealth Office website named Goa along with four major metro cities - Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai-- as not advisable for travellers.
The website was updated on November 11. "Future attacks may target public places frequented by Westerners and expatriates, including in major metropolitan centres like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and tourist areas such as Goa," it said. The advisory, which comes days ahead of the 26/11

terror attack anniversary, asks citizens to remain alert while visiting bars in Goa and other places fearing spiked drinks. "There have been reports of drinks being spiked and travellers, including British nationals, subsequently being robbed, sexually assaulted or dying," the advisory said.

In 2008 alone, 40 British nationals died in the coastal state of Goa and one fourth of these deaths resulted from drug or alcohol abuse, it added. As a precaution, the holiday makers are advised to avoid beaches after dark when they run a risk of being attacked by packs of stray dogs or being robbed or sexually assaulted.
