Mamata trails in Nandigram

May 02, 2021

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee trailing in Nandigram where she is pitted against the BJP's Suvendu Adhikari. The Trinamool Congress is leading on 139 seats, while the BJP has 117 leads.

While the EC has rapped Adhikari for trying to communally divide the vote by calling Mamata 'begum' and saying she had turned Nandigram into a mini Pakistan, Banerjee has also fed into the narrative by addressing crowds in the constituency saying, "I am a Hindu girl". On the last day, she said, "I am a Brahmin and I belong to the Shandilya gotra."
