Smriti Irani wants to shut down Films Division

The Information and Broadcasting ministry plans to shut down Films Division of India, say sources.

I&B minister Smriti Irani has prepared a power point presentation that is being shown to almost all union ministers after an Expenditure Committee recommended that Films Division has become redundant. The minister now plans to create an umbrella organisation for all movie-related activities.


This ties in with reports that Irani is planning to merge all four of its film unitsNational Film Development Corp. Childrens Film Society India (CFSI), Directorate of Film Festivals and Films Division of India into a single entity.

Films Division has 250 employees.

A nod from Pm Modi is awaited.
