Sonia chairs Opposition meet to decide Presidential candidate

June 22, 2017

The Opposition meets to decide on the Presidential candidate. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is chairing the meeting.

A day after backing Ram Nath Kovind's candidature for the president's post, the JD(U) today said that there was no question of going back to the NDA and it continued to be an integral part of the united opposition. "The decision to back Kovind's candidature is an isolated incident... we'll never go back to the NDA-fold again," the JD(U) national spokesperson K C Tyagi told PTI over phone from Delhi.

Following the JD-U 'defection' hectic parleys between leaders of non-NDA parties began this morning, hours ahead of a crucial opposition meeting where they were expected to zero in on a joint candidate for the presidential election.
