January 18, 2017

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday filed his nomination from Amritsar East seat, while Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh filed from Lambi on the last day for filing of nominations for the February four assembly polls in Punjab.

Besides the two, Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Mann submitted his nomination from Jalalabad seat.

Congress heavyweight Amarinder will take on Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal from his pocket borough Lambi seat. Also in fray from Lambi is former Delhi legislator and AAP leader Jarnail Singh.

Asserting that he is not here to fight 'personal battles', Sidhu said Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat need to win in the upcoming assembly polls.

"I want to tell all the Congressmen and the Punjabis to cast their votes for Punjab...to establish religion. Punjab, Punjabis and Punjabiyat need to win this time. He who joins gets respect....and he gets insulted who divides," Sidhu said.

Stating that wrong policies have drowned Punjab, the cricketer-turned politician said that those who divided Punjab have to be taught a lesson.

"This time voting should not take place for Rs 500 or for selfish motives. Those who want to unite Punjab have to win. The Punjabis must gain 100 per cent interest. This fight is for every Punjabi...every Punjabi will win this time," he added.
