"We are in talks to get personnel of the ITBP to guard Kasab in jail," the official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
"It has not yet been finalised but as per the proposal the ITBP personnel will be in charge of guarding him round the clock," the official added.
The Pakistani gunman, the only arrested terrorist of the group of ten who attacked Mumbai on November 26 last year, is lodged in high security Arthur Road Jail in central Mumbai awaiting trial.
He has not been produced in the court during the hearings on remand application or when the 26/11 chargesheet was filed last month, owing to security concerns.
The crime branch of the Mumbai police, which is probing the terror attacks, has booked Kasab in 12 cases registered against him for his involvement in the strikes which claimed over 160 lives.
