Poonam Mahajan, daughter of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, may contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, said senior party leader Gopinath Munde who also ruled out the entry of Rahul Mahajan, who is currently busy in a reality show after being in the limelight for all wrong reasons, into politics.
"Rahul Mahajan will not enter politics. He is busy with his reality show. However, Poonam Mahajan is likely to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from South Mumbai constituency against Milind Deora of the Congress," Munde said.
Munde said a final decision on Poonam's candidature will be taken by the party but he was "speaking his mind on the issue". Since Munde, a former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, is arguably the most important leader of the BJP in the state, sources said it is highly unlikely that his suggestion will be shot down.
Rumour mills have been working overtime since Rahul entered the reality show "Big Boss" recently that he may enter politics. It was said that he had participated in the show to improve his image in the public eye and then announce his decision to join politics.
Poonam, on the other hand, has been keeping low profile and has a non-controversial image. Considered mature and sober with political maturity to boot, she reportedly has the support of Munde and others from the Mahajan family.
