Riazuddin Nasir, on whom the investigating agencies are pinning their hopes, has been taken to Gujarat for further interrogation on Tuesday.

The Gujarat police, who obtained a body warrant on Monday, took Nasir from the high security Hindalga jail in Belgaum to Gujarat.

Nasir will be lodged in the same jail as his father, Moulana Nasiruddin and brother Yasir are housed in. Both father and son were picked up by the Gujarat police last year in connection with the murder of former Gujarat Home Minister Haren Pandya.

Both Nasiruddin and Yasir are at present lodged in the Sabaramati jail in Gujarat. Nasir, who would be subject to interrogation, will also be lodged in the same jail.

Nasir had been picked up in Karnataka initially on charges of vehicle theft. However, further investigations conducted by Karnataka Police revealed that he was part of a crucial meeting of the SIMI at Hubli in Karnataka where they had allegedly planned to execute terror strikes in different parts of the country.

Nasir could play a crucial role in the investigations into the Gujarat blasts case as Nasir had revealed that the bombs were made in Hubli. Police suspect that the same bombs could have been used in the Gujarat blasts.

Besides this Nasir had also given information regarding SIMI chief Safdar Nagori and Abdus Subhan, the man the police believe is the brain behind the Indian Mujahideen.

The Gujarat police are expected to question Nasir regarding the role played by both Nagori and Subhan in the Gujarat blasts. They would also look to get more information on the bombs that were used during the blasts.

He will also be quizzed about the role played by Abu Basher, the man the Gujarat police claim is the mastermind behind the serial blasts.
