The police on Saturday claimed to have made a major breakthrough in the Delhi serial blasts case. The Delhi Police also claimed to have solved the Lucknow serial blasts case with the arrest of Atif, the terrorist who was arrested from Jamia Nagar locality after a gruelling encounter.

Addressing media persons, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Police) Karnal Singh said: "The Atif group was involved in serial blasts in Uttar Pradesh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Delhi."

Atif was involved in the planning and execution of the blast in Varanasi, he added.

According to the Delhi police, Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Tayiba provided full support to banned SIMI and Indian Mujahideen to unleash terror activities in India.

Atif, the 'main man' in Indian Mujahideen, was inspired by Al-Qaeda philosophy, the officer said.

More details are awaited.
