The fledgling Praja Rajyam Party headed by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi on Friday accused the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh of resorting to "dirty tricks" and tapping the telephones of some its top leaders.

"The government should immediately put an end to this practice and dismantle the 'Dirty Tricks Department'," the party spokesman P Prabhakar told reporters.

Without disclosing the names of party leaders whose phones are being allegedly tapped, he said his party would represent the matter to the Governor N D Tiwari and if necessary to President Pratibha Patil.

Prabhakar said the ruling party was getting "jittery" over the growing public support for Chiranjeevi.

"We have clear information that the telephones of some of our top leaders are being tapped," he said.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi will embark on his second leg of road shows on October 30 covering Telangana region, an event being keenly watched in political circles as Telangana statehood has emerged as a key issue ahead of the elections.

Chiranjeevi, who had launched Praja Rajyam party in August, will address a series of road-side meetings in Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts during the week-long tour.

The megastar will start the mass contact programme at Siricilla in Karimnagar district, the handloom hub of the state which has witnessed a spate of suicides by debt-ridden weavers in the recent past.

The Telangana tour will conclude with public meeting in the temple town of Bhadrachalam in Khammam district.
