GRP may seek Raj Thackeray's custody

Arrested Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray could be taken into custody by the Government Railway Police in connection with two cases registered against him and party activists for damaging property at Kalyan and Thane railway stations on October 19, a senior official said.

"There are two cases registered against MNS activists for damaging property and attacking persons at the Thane and Kalyan railway stations," GRP Commissioner A K Sharma told PTI.

When asked if they were planning to seek Thackeray's custody, he said they would consider applying for his custody if he get bail in the Domblivali case.

"We have not decided so far but if he gets bail in the Dombivali civil case then we will consider applying for his custody after consulting higher officials," he said.

Raj spends night in the lock-up

Thackeray was arrested from Ratnagiri in the wee hours of Tuesday in connection with a case registered at Kherwadi in suburban Bandra regarding the assault on north Indian candidates who appeared for Railway Recruitment Board exams on October 19.

The MNS leader was granted bail in the Kherwadi case but his custody was taken by officials from the Manpada police station in neighbouring Dombivali in connection with a similar case.
