In her first reaction to media, Sharmila Thackeray, wife of Raj Thackeray, said that it was a shame that the Maharashtra government has arrested her husband for speaking for the rights of Marathi people of the state.

In a sms to some mediapersons, Sharmila wrote, "Shame, Shame, Shame."

Her response came after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray was arrested early on Tuesday morning from Ratnagiri for promoting enmity within the country.

Sharmila further said in her sms, "My husband has been arrested only for talking in the interest of the Marathi people and the government of Maharashtra on the other hand is not doing anything for the local Marathi people. If they have done anything in the interests of Marathi people, let them come out in open and point out," she said.

Sharmila has reached Mumbai's suburban Bandra court before her husband who will be produced there later in the afternoon.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hassan Gafoor said that he will ask for police custody of Raj Thackeray in the court.

She ended her sms by stating, "The Marathi people are with Raj Thackeray and God Bless him, Jai Maharashtra."
