The Samajwadi Party on Saturday demanded a judicial probe into the Jamia Nagar encounter that followed after the serial blasts in New Delhi and threatened that it will rethink its support to the United Progressive Alliance government if the probe proves that those arrested in the case are innocent.

Delhi encounter: Fact finding team finds loopholes

Party General Secretary Amar Singh said the Samajwadi Party wanted a judicial probe into the Jamia Nagar encounter, in which two suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists were killed on September 19, and unravel the truth behind the incident.

Singh said he would suggest Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to 'resign on moral grounds' till the judicial inquiry is over.

"Our party supported the government due to pressure from the minorities to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party at bay. If the judicial probe proves that those arrested in connection with the serial blasts are innocent, then we will have to rethink on the support (to the UPA)," Singh said.

His comments came after his visit to Batla House, where the encounter took place, in which Delhi police official Mohan
Chand Sharma also died.
