PM condemns terror attacks in Mumbai

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the terror attacks in Mumbai on Wednesday night and assured all help to Maharashtra in meeting the situation.

The Prime Minister's Office said Singh was in touch with Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and was monitoring the situation.

Deshmukh also said that he was in touch with the central government which had assured all help to meet the 'very serious' situation.

He said he had talked to Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who assured that the Centre would provide all the assistance required by Maharashtra.

The Centre has immediately decided to dispatch National Security Guard commandos to supplement the efforts being made by local police and CRPF, Deshmukh said.

"We are trying to control the situation," he said.

BJP chief terms the situation 'critical': Terming the Mumbai attacks as 'deplorable act of cowardice', BJP chief Rajnath Singh condemned the terror strikes on Wednesday night, saying people of India would fight back the menace of terrorism.

"It is a time of crisis for the nation I condemn the attacks.

"It is an act of cowardice which the people of India would fight back. It is time to be united and render the moral support to the security forces," Singh told PTI over phone from Jaipur.

"My party expresses deepest condolence to the relatives of the dead," he added.

Singh termed the situation as 'critical' and called upon the United Progressive Alliance government to rise up to the people's expectation and fight terror without any bias or consideration.
