In the wake of
recent attacks on Indian taxi drivers in Australia, officials from the two sides have agreed to establish a framework for continued dialogue on issues pertaining to the safety and security of the cabbies.
Sujan Chinoy, the Indian consul general in Sydney, held a meeting in Adelaide on Thursday with Hieu Van Le, chairman of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the transport and police departments, the Taxi Counci
l of South Australia, taxi companies,
Indian taxi drivers and the Indian community.
"The meeting was very fruitful and positive as all the stake-holders were present. Discussions were held on the safety and security measures for
taxi drivers," Chinoy said.
