Girl, rescued from a borewell, discharged

Twenty-six-month-old Vandana, who was rescued 27 hours after she fell into a 45-feet deep borewell on Tuesday, was discharged from the emergency ward of a hospital in Agra on Monday.

Vandana, accompanied by her parents Bengali Babu Kushwaha and Mamta, smiled as she was garlanded by authorities of the Sarojini Naidu Hospital.

Agra Commissioner Sita Ram Meena, Deputy Inspector General of Police Kamal Sexena and District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram were also present at the function.

S N Medical College principal Dr N C Prajapati, who supervised Vandana's treatment, spoke of the efforts of the doctors who restored her to full health.

The girl had fallen into the borewell in Hulaspur village while playing with her father and was rescued by the Army, with the help of the district administration, in a delicate operation.

The Army, which had stepped in after the district administration failed to pull the child out, had to work for nearly 20 hours to save her.

Efforts of the jawans of the 509 Army base, who pulled out Vandana from the borewell, were also hailed at the meeting.
