The Haryana government on Friday decided to seek a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder of Delhi police's encounter specialist Rajbir Singh, following a request by the slain cop's family for such an investigation.

"On the demand of the family of the deceased, I have directed the state DGP to request the Centre for a CBI investigation into the killing of ACP Rajbir Singh," Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told reporters outside the state assembly in Chandigarh.

"It is being done as the family members of the deceased police officer rang me up late last on Thursday night, requesting that the murder be probed by the CBI," Hooda said, without giving details as to who from the family had telephoned him.

The chief minister said that the government wanted the CBI probe to "look into the circumstances leading to his murder".

Property dealer Vijay Bhardwaj has confessed to the police that he had killed the Assistant Commissioner of Police on Monday night in Gurgaon.

The Gurgaon and Delhi police, who are presently investigating the case, have arrested Bhardwaj.
