Over 400 Tibetans on Monday gathered at Rangpo checkpost bordering West Bengal in a bid to enter Sikkim, to take their peace march up to the Indo-China border at Nathu La, to express solidarity with their counterparts in Tibet.

"The protesting monks raised anti-China slogans from the other side of Rangpo checkpost in West Bengal and demanded permission to enter Sikkim to take forward their peace march upto Nathu La," checkpost in-charge B B Subba told PTI in Gangtok.

Heavy police deployment
has been made at the check post to prevent Tibetan protesters from entering in the Himalayan state territory, he said.

Senior police officials, including DIG (Range) Akshaya Sachdeva and the Superintendent of Police M S Tuli were camping at the spot to monitor the situation, Subba added.

The protesters, agitating under the banner of the North-east Tibetan Youth Congress, had taken out the peace march from different towns of West Bengal towns some days ago and were camping at 17th Mile area.
