As the stand-off between the UPA and its Left allies over the Indo-US nuclear deal intensified, the Samajwadi Party on Thursday said it will continue to oppose the agreement unless the government comes up with some "new logic or fact" on the issue.

"We stand opposed to the nuclear deal," SP leader and Rajya Sabha member Shahid Siddiqui said amid heightened political activity over the contentious issue.

"But, if the government comes up with some new logic or fact about it, then the party may reconsider its stand on the deal," he said.

He said if the UPA government does come up with some new facts related to the deal, then "we may take a decision which would be beneficial to the country."

The decision, Siddiqui said, "would be above any political considerations, as it is something which is of national interest".

The comments came as the stand-off between UPA and Left parties intensified with the government appearing to be inclined to go ahead despite the opposition by its allies.
