The Left parties' unhappiness over the functioning of the United Progressive Alliance government and especially its economic policies came to the fore on Monday with the Revolutionary Socialist Party deciding to withdraw from the UPA-Left coordination committee.

"We are not happy with their economic policies and the government is not changing its position despite our opposition. So we have decided to withdraw from the UPA-Left coordination committee," senior party leader Abani Roy told PTI.

The decision came after a meeting of the party's central committee in Delhi.

RSP, one of the four Left parties, is the first outside supporter of the Congress-led coalition to take such a step.

While the Communist Party of India-Marxist and the CPI are the major Left parties, RSP and Forward Bloc have been the junior partners.

The party, which is also part of the Marxist-led governments in West Bengal and Kerala, has three members in Lok Sabha.

The UPA-Left coordination committee is headed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and has representation from Congress and the Left parties.
