RLD decides to vote against UPA

In a major setback to the United Progressive Alliance government, the Rashtriya Lok Dal, which has three Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, has decided to vote against the government during the trust vote on July 22.

RLD supremo Ajith Singh, who met Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati today morning, informed mediapersons about his party's decision to vote against the government.

He said that the trust vote on July 22 is not about the nuclear deal, but about the fate of the government. "I am not saying anything on the nuclear deal, we are just opposed to the fact that the government has now taken the support of the Samajwadi Party. I do not want to support any government that is being supported by the SP and Amar Singh. The SP is one of the main reasons for us to take this stand," Singh said.

"I can see that the elections are round the corner and now is the time is to work on a strategy to fight the polls," he said.

Meanwhile RLD MP Munshiram told rediff.com that the decision to vote against the government was taken after Singh's meeting with Mayawati on Sunday.

"Our party feels that the UPA has done nothing constructive in the past four years and hence it is best to vote against it," he added.
