Demanding the removal of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, leaders of the Sangharsh Samiti, which is spearheading the stir over the Amarnath land row in Jammu, began an indefinite sit-in outside the Raj Bhavan in Jammu on Tuesday.
Chanting anti-governor, anti-Azad government and anti-PDP slogans, activists and leaders of the samiti, a conglomeration of 35 outfits, also took out a rally in the city.
Staging the sit-in,
they demanded immediate restoration of the land to the Amarnath Shrine Board and removal of the governor.
The amalgam launched an anti-Vohra signature campaign in Jammu on Wednesday but suspended its call for a shutdown in the region for a week.
The signatures would be sent to the President, a samiti spokesman said. "If our demands are not met within seven days, we will enforce the shutdown in the region again," he said.
