With the Samajwadi Party signaling its closeness towards the Congress, Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday met top Left party leaders in New Delhi, ahead of the crucial United National Progressive Alliance meeting which would finalise its strategy on the nuclear deal issue.

Naidu was closeted with Communist Party of India - Marxist General Secretary Prakash Karat, his Communist Party of India counterpart AB Bardhan and senior CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury at the party headquarters for over 75 minutes, where the leaders discussed the emerging political scenario on the nuclear deal issue.

The meeting assumed significance as it was held just ahead of the meeting of the seven UNPA constituents in New Delhi, in which a stand on the issue is expected to be taken.

TDP, the Opposition party in Congress-ruled Andhra Pradesh, is toeing the line taken by the Left party on the nuclear deal.

Senior TDP leaders Yerran Naidu and Ram Mohan Rao also joined the TDP chief during his meeting with the Left leaders. Yerran Naidu had earlier in the week met Karat and Bardhan.

Bardhan said "Both the Left and TDP discussed the nuclear deal issue. The TDP told us their issues and we told them ours."

The TDP chief did not divulge details about the meeting and described as a 'personal visit'.
