Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed on Tuesday tendered his resignation to the chief minister following uproar in the assembly over allegations of corruption an independent legislator levelled against him.

Sayeed also resigned as the state Congress chief.

The resignation has been forwarded to the governor, who accepted it, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said.

The chief minister said in "the eyes of the law both giver and taker of graft are equally guilty".

"The government will investigate the allegations leveled by the independent MLA, Shoaib Lone and take appropriate legal action in the matter," he said.

Lone had alleged that the private secretary of the education minister had allegedly taken Rs. 40,000 from him for doing his job.
