India on Monday assured China that it will oppose any activity that is against the 'one-China principle' as they agreed to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between people of the two countries for the brighter future of humanity.

"The Indian side recalls that India was among the first countries to recognise that there is 'one-China' and policy has remained unaltered," said a joint statement, 'Shared vision for the 21st century', issued after talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao in Beijing.

"The Indian side states that it would continue to abide by its one-China policy and oppose any activity that is against the one-China principle," it said.

The Chinese side expressed its appreciation for the Indian position, it said.

The statement said that the two countries recognise their responsibilities and obligations towards the international community.

"The two sides are determined to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the people of India and China for the betterment of both countries and to bring about a brighter future for humanity," it said.
