TN village holds 'bull fight' despite SC ban

January 12, 2008 13:08 IST

Barely hours after the Supreme Court banned the conduct of  Jallikattu' (bull fights), villagers at Soorakkudi near Singampunari in Sivaganga district conducted the village sport  as part of a local religious festival on Friday.

According to reports, at least 100 bulls, brought from the neighbouring villages, were forced into the event held on Friday.

Though a large number of youth exhibited their 'heroism', nobody was injured.

A police official said that they were 'verifying' the incident.

"Criminal proceedings will be initiated against the violators. We will strictly implement the order. The villagers are advised against organising Jallikattu," he added.
