Women's separatist outfit Dukhtarane Milat staged a protest in Srinagar on Thursday against Valentine Day celebrations in Kashmir.

Activists of Dukhtarane Milat marched through the civil lines Lal Chowk, Regal Chowk and Abi-Guzar areas on Thursday afternoon.

Some activists of the group also went into local restaurants and hotels looking for young couples.

In

some places where the activists found young boys and girls sitting inside restaurants, they were politely told to "desist from such festivities which did not gel with the local culture and religion".

"Occasions like the Valentine Day are aimed at the cultural invasion of Muslims. These festivals are impure, vulgar and immoral," a spokeswoman of Dukhtaran-e-Milat said here.

The local police were on alert to avert any untoward incident in the city.
