Claiming that there is no law and order in Mumbai, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Tuesday blamed Vilasrao Deshmukh government for 'not taking action' against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena for triggering violence in the metropolis.

"There is no law and order in Mumbai. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh can do something to maintain law and order in the city," Singh told media persons in Jaipur.

He said it was shocking the way the tea vendors, taxi drivers and daily wage earners, who hail from Uttar Pradesh and live in Mumbai, were being thrashed by MNS activists.

"Forget what they have done at the Amitabh Bachchan's residence, what they have been doing to common man is shocking," he said.

Singh said whatever was happening in the metropolis should not be seen as Mumbai versus Uttar Pradesh since it was the problem of the country.

"No one should be seen as Maharashtrian or other as we are all Indians. Even in our national anthem we are together," he said.

Singh criticised Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, who hails from Maharashtra, for keeping mum to the incidents of attacks on non-Maharashtrian in Mumbai.

He also defended his playing the role of the spokesperson of Amitabh Bachchan's family.
