Vaccination drive began on Tuesday in West Bengal's Coochbehar district, where six cows have died of anthrax, official sources said. The drive will take place in the adjoining areas of Bhojaner-Chhara village in Mathabhanga, where six cattle died of anthrax last Friday.
Animal Resources Development minister Anisur Rahman told PTI that anthrax was common and a team of ARD vets have rushed to the area. With blood samples of the dead cattle testing positive, the deaths created panic in the district in the wake of the bird flu scare.
Meanwhile, culling operation neared completion in West Bengal with 34 lakh birds exterminated. However, eight quarantined members of a culling team in North Parganas district were being monitored after they complained of severe cold and joint ache.
