The Gujarat Coast Guard on Tuesday seized a Pakistani fishing boat off the Jakhao coast near Kutch and detained the seven people on board the boat.
"We have taken into custody a Pakistani fishing boat off the Jakhao coast. There were seven crew members in the boat. We have handed over the boat to the local police for investigation," Coast Guard officials said.
According to the Kutch district police, the people in the boat are primarily fishermen who had ventured near the Mouth of Kori Creek near the Gulf of Kutch.
"The process to hand over the custody of the boat and the fishermen by the Coast Guard is on and once that is completed, we will investigate further," Kutch District Superintendent of Police Vabang Jamir told PTI.
The Coast Guard and the Navy have increased patrolling in the Indian waters after a boat belonging to Poarbender fisherman was hijacked and used by terrorists who carried out the Mumbai attacks.
