Three persons, including a civilian and two militants, were killed in two separate incidents in Kashmir on Wednesday.

Police said security forces comprising the counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles, the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force and the Special Operations Group of the police cordoned off a house in Dardpora village in north Kashmir's Bandipore district on Wednesday morning.

"Two militants of Jaish-e-Mohammed hiding inside the house began indiscriminate automatic gunfire at the security forces. The cordon around the house was further tightened, resulting in a sustained firefight at the end of which both militants were killed," a senior police officer said in Srinagar.

Arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles and two magazines were recovered from the encounter site.

Meanwhile, protests gripped south Kashmir's Tral township, 50 kilometers from Srinagar, after a civilian was killed there. Locals said he had been killed because of the firing by Rashtriya Rifles troops.

The body of the slain villager was handed over to his relatives. The police has registered a case and started investigations.
