With the chasm between the United Progressive Alliance and the Left over the India-United States nuclear deal growing, the Communist Party of India has convened meetings of its decision-making bodies in October to deliberate on the fast evolving political situation.
CPI said the special meetings of its National Executive and the National Council have been summoned on October 29-31.
The meetings would follow the CPM's politburo and central committee, which are meeting in Kolkata this month end to take stock of the political situation.
"The situation is fast evolving. So we have to call the meetings of these bodies of our party to take stock of the emerging political situation and be ready for anything," CPI National Secretary D Raja told PTI.
At the meetings in October end, the CPI would discuss the talks between the UPA and Left parties on the nuclear deal.
The national executive and the council would also deliberate on issues like spiraling prices, the government's failure to revive and streamline the public distribution system, the refusal to pay remunerative prices to farmers while importing wheat at astronomical prices and allowing FDI and corporate houses in retail trade.
These issues, the CPI felt, were jeopardising the livelihood of crores of people leading to growing discontent among various sections.
